Batch 17 hiking in the mountains
Fall Break is a brief week in the middle of October where students have a break from classes. Here, students have the chance to travel outside of Chapel Hill and explore the United States or other surrounding nations. Of course, GLOBE 17 scholars took advantage of this.
GLOBE 17 group in the mountains in North Carolina:
A large group of us went on a trip to Asheville in the mountains of North Carolina. The area is quite a popular destination during fall break because of the beautiful fall leaves - large woods covered in red, orange, and yellow leaves!
The drive from Chapel Hill was already scenic and the closer we got the mountains the more breathtaking the view got. In the mountains we stayed at an Airbnb that would fit all of us Globers, which was truly a unique experience. During the days in Asheville, we went on hikes to a beautiful waterfall and scenic views, drove along the infamous Blue Ridge Parkway, explored Downtown Asheville, and enjoyed the view from the porch and hot tub of our Airbnb. At night, we stayed up late to watch (horror) movies, play poker, pool, and games, or simply to talk about everything and nothing. Most memorable to many of us were a fun group game of Pictionary and celebrating one of our batchmate’s 21st birthday (Happy Birthday Adam!).
We would also like to give an honorable mention to Olive Garden, a great insight into American culture :) We will be coming back for the bread sticks!
After 3 amazing and relaxing days, we drove back to Chapel Hill! Now that the remainder of the semester has picked up speed again, we are happy to look back on such a fun time that was made most special by the people that we were with!
